Once Upon A time

Once upon a time there was a girl who wanted everything and was handed nothing. So, she worked hard to get what she wanted and still got little. So, she continued working hard, started working even harder, became more determined, and kept an optimistic mind. Until, after still only accomplishing few to none of her goals, she became pessimistic.

This girl always suffered from depression. She had good days, weeks, and months, followed by bad ones. She kept picking herself back up when it felt like the world and the people in it were doing their best to keep her down. She kept retrieving her strong mind only to lose it again when she would see that little to no progress. She desperately wanted huge progress. And she was patient. But, she thought, how patient exactly can you expect one to be when they keep only seeing that little to no change.

This girl often read inspirational quotes and became inspired by them. They would say “be consistent”, “stay strong”, and “be patient, your dreams will come true in time”. She often found herself wondering “in this lifetime or the next?”. She was nearing the halfway point of her life and was, as she thought, consistently working hard. While not seeing much progress. Or at least the progress was very slow. At the halfway point of her life, she felt she had yet to enjoy her life. She felt she hadn’t enjoyed being alive. She hadn’t been her truest self. She had only been what others had expected of her and not who she wanted to be. She hadn’t lived the life she wanted to live. She had only spent most of her life feeling depressed, pathetic, hurt, and like a fake. All she wanted was to be herself and to be happy. And she struggled to even accomplish that. She felt like she was missing out on her life.

This girl wanted comfort, freedom, and love. She didn’t think that was too much to ask for. She wanted to live in a comfortable environment. She wanted freedom to practice whatever beliefs she believed in and not just whatever her family chose for her. She wanted freedom to dress and act however she chose to. And to pursue whatever or whomever her heart desired. This freedom would come with no judgement or criticism from supposed loved ones. And she wanted to be loved unconditionally and appreciated. How could all of that be too much to ask for nor so difficult to find and accomplish. It seems like it should be a birthright or any right for that matter. So why, she wondered, was it so hard for her to accomplish all she dreamed of.
