It’s not enough to make sure you believe you deserve someone great who will treat you right. It’s important to find someone who also believes this. Someone who wants to be the best version of themselves with you. Not someone who is comfortable being their worst with you. Nor someone who wants you to settle for their worst. But someone who is willing to work towards their better self.
Furthermore, if someone tells you to lower your standards, that there isn’t anything better out there… they are either projecting their shit onto you that doesn’t necessarily apply to you. Or they don’t want what is best for you. They don’t necessarily have malicious intent, but they could. They could just be thinking of their own situation. But you are not them and your situation won’t necessarily be the same. Nor does it have to. There are good people out there. It is possible to be in a happy and healthy relationship. There is no guarantee of how quickly you will receive this. That doesn’t mean that you should stop searching. Good things take time and hard work. I’ve witnessed many people get impatient and settle for a bad thing because they didn’t want to wait around for a good thing. That decision was theirs to make. As should it be yours to make in regards to your life. Not someone else’s. I encourage you to think about the true intentions of those who try to convince you to settle. They may not have your best interest or they may be going off of their own fears and insecurities. Either way, not the best people to take advice from.
I’ve given my best to people who gave me their worst. I started to wonder if that was in fact their best. Until I saw them give other people better. They continued to give me their worst while giving others their best. This is behavior to look out for and not tolerate.
